Pat Bamford Signs With Sheffield United After Leading Abusive Chants Targeting Manager Chris Wilder

Patrick Bamford has signed with the Championship side just half a year following instigating derogatory taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

This experienced forward, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has agreed to a agreement joining the Championship strugglers through the winter. Bamford's seven-year time with Leeds concluded amicably this past summer.

One of the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player included starting abusive chants regarding Chris Wilder during Leeds' success festivities this spring. Currently, the former England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Previous Conflict Between the Striker & the Manager

Both men had history prior to Leeds won promotion to the Premier League last season while Sheffield United lost the playoff final by Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion while Leeds fell short in the playoffs.

Reconciliation and Looking Ahead

Everything seems has been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s least productive attack, in desperate need of improvement in attack while Bamford looking to rejuvenate his playing days.

The Wilder chant went viral in April. A repentant Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, called the Sheffield United manager the following day.

Wilder commented back then: “Spoke with Patrick recently and I have no problem at all with that. I'm uncertain about the words used from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him calling me.

“We spent 20 minutes and similarly I talked with Daniel Farke too and we had a longer discussion together and he's a great person, a class act. When I was playing we would dish it out and accept it and that’s an integral part of football at every level, even on a Sunday morning. I've got absolutely no issue. I am cool with it and I told him that to Pat.”

Latest Playing Struggles

Bamford featured in 18 games for Leeds last season however the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea and Middlesbrough player has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
